1、The predecessor of Jahwa: From Kwong Sang to Cosmetics Plant
Due to the failure of Opium War and the abortion of Wu Hsu Reform in 1898, China trapped into a huge tragedy. Then, Hong Kong Kwong Sang Co. Ltd, the predecessor of Jahwa, was established as a national enterprise to invigorate China through industry. With famous “Shanghai VIVE” brand of toilet water that crowned Panama Award, Kwong Sang became a bellwether of national cosmetics industry soon.
2、1949-1978: From Star Household Chemicals Manufacturing Plant to Household Chemicals Plant
Under the reform wave of joint state-private ownership in New China, Hong Kong Kwong Sang Shanghai Branch, China Xie Ji Cosmetic Factory with a long history, the pioneer producer of toilet water in mainland China--Shanghai Star Perfume Plant and Oriental Chemical Industrial Association merged into “Shanghai Star Household Chemicals Manufacturing Plant” which is the origin of “Jahwa”. Two reputable brands “Friendship” and “Yashuang” promoted then were the earliest popular skin-care products in New China.
3、1978-1990: The Leader, Jahwa
Jahwa has accelerated its developing pace since the Third Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Party, and climbed up to its first peak in the course of development, with fixed assets over RMB 60 million, sales volume up to RMB 450 million, profit and tax amounting to RMB 105 million, thus enabling Jahwa to be the No.1 cosmetic company in the domestic market. During those days, with its largest sales volume, most complete varieties, most times of awards and highest reputation, MAXAM became the leading brand among national cosmetics and set records for many times in the domestic market.
4、1991: The Ebb and Flow of Joint-venture
In 1991, Shanghai Jahwa was forced to cooperate with SC Johnson with its two brands “Ruby” and “MAXAM” to establish Shanghai Johnson Co., Ltd. After that, “Ruby” and “MAXAM” were heavily defeated with sales hitting the bottom and sharply decreasing by RMB 250 million. Shanghai Jahwa started to think the development strategy of national brands.
5、1992-1995: From SC Johnson to Shanghai Jahwa
In order to strengthen national brands, Shanghai Jahwa bought back “MAXAM” and “Ruby” from SC Johnson. Meanwhile, Shanghai Household Chemicals Plant was restructured as Shanghai Jahwa United Co. Ltd., which was the second round of development with far-reaching significance to Shanghai Jahwa. From then on, Shanghai Jahwa United Co. Ltd started implementing brand manager system according to the globally advanced market management mode at that time, which laid a solid foundation for Jahwa to transform from a plant under the planned economy to a modern enterprise with competitive capability under the market economy.

7、Jan. 1999
As one of the important action of the Large Group strategy of Shanghai Industry, Shanghai Jahwa United Co. Ltd acquired Shanghai Daily Chemicals (Group) Co. Ltd, which officially announced the founding of Shanghai Jahwa (Group) Co. Ltd.
8、2001: Shanghai Jahwa United Co. Ltd got listed
In 2001, Shanghai Jahwa was successfully listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange, which created a platform for Jahwa to raise capital and laid a firm foundation for Jahwa to step towards world stage. Famous brands like Liushen, MAXAM and HERBORIST, enjoying leading coverage in their respectively segment markets, contribute to Jahwa family. Boasting comprehensive competitive strength with powerful R&D and brand capabilities, Jahwa became the only local daily chemicals enterprise that was able to compete with its international counterparts in all directions.
